Diffusing can add volume and shorten dry time, but too much heat or movement can ruin curl clumps. Use this low-frizz method.

Diffusing works best when it helps curls dry in the shape they already formed while wet. The biggest mistake is moving the dryer around too much, which blows apart curl clumps before they have set.
Set the Style Before You Start
Apply styling products to wet hair, scrunch gently, then give the curls a few minutes to begin setting. Use a heat protectant if your product does not already include one.
Use Low Heat and Low Airflow
Start with the dryer off, lift a section into the diffuser bowl, then turn it on. Hold still for a short stretch before moving to the next section. High airflow is fast, but it is also more likely to create frizz.
Focus on Roots for Volume
Hover the diffuser near roots or clip roots up while drying to create lift. Avoid repeatedly touching the curl lengths. Once hair is fully dry, gently shake at the scalp instead.
Finish Without Overworking
If gel created a cast, scrunch it out with dry hands or a drop of lightweight oil. If curls still go flat by midday, review the hold strategy in this definition guide.
