How to Refresh Curly Hair After a Workout
Sweat does not always mean full wash day. Learn how to dry, refresh, or cleanse curls after exercise without adding avoidable buildup.

After a workout, curly hair may need only time to dry, a quick scalp refresh, or a full cleanse depending on how much you sweated and how your scalp feels. The key is not trapping a damp, sweaty scalp under a tight style for the rest of the day.
Let the Scalp Dry First
Take off hats and headbands as soon as you can. Loosen hair at the roots and let air circulate, or diffuse on cool or low heat if needed. Do not pile on oil while the scalp is still damp with sweat.
Refresh the Lengths Only if Needed
If the curl pattern still looks good, leave it alone. For flat or frizzy pieces, lightly mist with water and reshape only those areas. This targeted refresh method prevents unnecessary product buildup.
Cleanse When the Scalp Calls for It
Persistent itch, odor, or residue means it is time to cleanse. A co-wash can be enough after light sweat, while a shampoo may be better after several workouts or heavy styling products.
